Why cooking is not an easy job

I'm cooking dinner right now (9:16 pm). I know. It's quite late for me to still be cooking at this time. But we had a really late lunch so we're having a really late dinner too.

I noticed that chefs on TV (especially Curtis the Take Home Chef--he's sooo yummy! I mean, NO--not him but the dishes he cooks. OK, that's a lie. LOL) make it look like cooking is fun and easy. I mean, it is ... IF you have people to cut, chop, crush, peel, wash and do stuff for you. In my world, in my kitchen, that is not the case. I do everything.

It's actually not the cooking that's tiring. It's the side-jobs that come with it and after. Certain dishes have several ingredients in it. This would mean washing and preparing these ingredients as well. I use two chopping boards--one for the meat and one for the veggies. I use only one knife though but I wash it every time I use it to cut another veggie. Sometimes, when I'm not in a hurry, I wash the veggie board in between cutting veggies.

I place the prepared/chopped ingredients in containers which I wash immediately after I'm done with it. Don't get me wrong. I don't love washing. I just hate to see the sink piling up--it's far easier to deal with washing when there's less. If I'm cooking 2 dishes at the same time, that'll necessarily require the use of 1 or 2 more pots/pans. So, yeeeeyy, more pots/pans for me to wash.

There. I should have a wash/washing counter for this blog. LOL. OR, I should just change the title ...

My Canon PowerShot S51S

Hubby gave me a Canon PowerShot S51S for my birthday. Isn't he amazing? That's his best gift ever. It's a way better replacement for my now retired Canon PowerShot A70 which, unfortunately, suffered from CCD malfunction. It is DSLR-like (i mean bigger than normal P&S cameras) but still comfortable to hold. I love its great super megazoom. When I attended my kids' programs in school, where parents normally have to sit way at the back, I didn't have to stand up and go near the stage (like the rest of the parents did) just so I can get a good view of my kids. I just sat there like a diva. I took pictures and movies of them and they're all crisp and clear like they're just in front of me. I like the large flip and twist LCD display. If I don't need to use the display and leave it closed, then I don't have to worry of nose-smearing it :) I haven't read the manual actually so there are tons more of great features for me to unlock.

I just had to return it back *sniff* because it was having problems with the display. There are times it does turn on but most of the time it does not and shifts automatically to the viewfinder. Now, I got so used to shooting using the viewfinder, I think I'm ready for a DSLR (lol). Seriously, I really like a DSLR. A Nikon D40 perhaps?

Below are pictures of my ex-camera taken with Nokia 5300.

Long Time No Blog

Seriously! I have a lot to blog about but, as usual, my daughter needs to use my laptop again. I guess I'll start with last night first. Hubby cooked dinner! He made cheese steaks! Ain't that nice? I like it when he cooks. I get to relax and I get to enjoy my food.

I am so hooked on doing videos right now. It started with a very short picture movie for my sis-in-law and now I can't seem to stop. It's so addicting! I now have 4 on YouTube and more to come.

Peace!

I believe, in my heart, I am a peace loving person -- except when someone messes with me.

Monday last week, President's Day, the kids and I went out to spend some time at the mall. Yna did a little shopping, MJ just browsed video games at GameStop, and Dani and I were just happy to try out the Teriyaki Chicken at the new Sakura Japan.

It was drizzling on the way home so I parked in front of the lobby door. Although there were signs that parking is not allowed in that area, I still did so because the little shed will prevent the kids, especially the baby, from getting wet. Aside from I have done this a couple of times, the two lobby guards know me and they don't have a problem with it.

The guard on duty is somewhat new and very arrogant. [Hello! Where does he think his salary came from?] Anyway, this particular lobby guard told me I cannot park at the front. [What?! Is he kidding? Did he not see that it was drizzling? ] I said I'll move it. He didn't listen and told me a bus with a handicap person is coming. I said I'll move it after I've made sure my kids are all seated first. All along he was at the door. He's a really tall and heavy man so standing there at the doorway, blocking it with his belly [lol], is really annoying. He replied nonchalantly with, "well you have to move it now". [What?! Did he not see my kids? Did he not hear what I just said?] I looked at him wanting desperately to slap him. I told Yna [in Tagalog] to watch Dani and then turned around.

I was fuming mad as I was parking the car. He talked down on me! [and I didn't do anything] Who did he think he was?! I hastily walked back to the building, got on the elevator and when I reached the lobby, I yelled at him without thinking twice this time. I yelled at him like there is no tomorrow [lol]. He was talking back but I couldn't hear him [all I could hear was myself yelling] and I didn't care. I just want to show him that he couldn't and shouldn't have shown me an attitude and that next time he opens his mouth, he'd think first. I hope.

Hubby's Christmas Gifts!!!

I felt the need to post this [lol] to inspire hubby to feel the need to give me gifts again. With huge emphasis on the word 'again'. Ok, not to be insensitive, I know he's broke and all because of that trip, but let's just see. It won't hurt to be hopeful. [I think]

This gift, he didn't know about it. He just learned about it when he saw the Macy's bag and it was huge. He didn't ask what it was, didn't check what it was but he did look like he wanted to do both. I was just supposed to buy perfumes for "pasalubong" but this baby here just looked so good to ignore so I bought it. There!

This has a story too. We flew through Cathay Pacific Airlines so we earned Asia Miles. Hubby redeemed these miles and got me this Rose Essentille by Bvlgari. I like it. It's very feminine.

Now this is my favorite! I totally didn't know about this because Macy's doesn't carry that brand and it's not in the Asia Miles rewards programme so this is all him [and his very encouraging sister (thank you!)].

It was in the midst of the gift giving chaos that I was expecting him to give his gift after I gave him mine and he didn't and said bluntly, "You got me a gift? I thought we're not giving each other gifts?" Was he kidding? I only smiled though I really wanted to strangle him. Maybe later, I said to myself, when everyone's busy with their gifts and all ... just keep smiling. I was hurt. Seriously.

And when everyone has already opened all their gifts, he turned to me and said, "and the big moment!" Then he gave me this! I was so happy I wanted to throw myself to him. Cheesy! Ok, I'm just kidding. I loved it! It's gorgeous. I was really very happy and I told him, "Where's the matching necklace?" He choked. :)

Me lovin' it! Look how happy I am!

Bored

Good thing I am bored. I have a reason to post. Was it like a month or two since I last posted? Seems like a year. Well, actually it is. [har har] And aside from being bored, I have this little but nagging headache that won't go away. I mean, I woke up and it's there. I thought I had a good night's sleep. *sighs*

About Dani's cold, she has one right now but it has nothing to do with the previous one. That was all about an ear infection. I hope she does not develop one again!

I was offline for a long time. We had a family trip to Philippines for a month. Yeyyy! It was fun. I did a lot of eating. How can you not? There are a lot of restaurants anywhere from fast food to fancy ones.

For the Pinas blog ... please just check my son's blog @ awesomemj.blogspot.com. I helped in organizing the pics there so I might as well route you there so I don't have to make another one here.

And if you want to do some serious reading ... please check out my daughter's blog too ... Jaded Heart No More
